New Year, new CEO

David Bruce takes up the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) here at Marsh Commercial. In this special message, David outlines the risks businesses should be addressing in 2022.

Happy New Year, I hope you enjoyed the festive period.

I want to start by saying thank you to Anthony C. Gruppo. His support and guidance during this transition has been invaluable. I wish him the happiest of retirements, and, like many of you I’m sure, will look forward to following his journey via social media.

As we enter a new year and embrace this new era of Marsh Commercial, I cannot tell you how excited I am to take up this new role as CEO. Having first joined Marsh Commercial as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2018, I believe my understanding of this great business and 30+ years’ industry experience, will serve me well in this new role as I lead our diverse community of colleagues to drive operational excellence, consistency and value this year.

We have all faced unprecedented challenges over the last 18-24 months and our resilience to the pandemic has been tested to the limit. As we begin to move towards recovery, I look forward to working with my Marsh Commercial colleagues to help shape your future and contribute to your ongoing success.

We know it won’t be easy. The findings from our 2021 UK SME Risk Report show that the while the majority of businesses intend to increase their investment in risk management, not all businesses understand what risk management is and what is included. The risks you may need to address and manage can be varied and complex. From internal risks, such as procuring the right insurance cover so your business is fully protected and ensuring the wellbeing and good mental health of your employees, through to external risks like mitigating the ongoing threat of cyber crime.

I’d like to reassure you that your business, is our business. Whatever challenges you face, we will work harder, go further and do more to help your business thrive. From insurance, to risk management and employee health and benefits, it truly is our passion to advise, protect and support you on your journey.

2022 will see us continue to champion and celebrate our community heroes – the businesses and individuals that go above and beyond to make a positive difference, such as Cancer Card and Charlie House, our two fantastic For the People Awards 2021 winners. We will remain committed to helping our charity partners, including Ambitious about Autism, and we will keep you updated on the latest industry insight and regulations while providing sector-specific resources on our Real Help Hubs.

As I close, I would like to thank our valued clients for their loyal support and leave you with one final thought: here at Marsh Commercial, we truly recognise that your business and the communities we serve are the backbone of our economy and society. It’s why we work tirelessly behind the scenes, backing you to succeed. We care about your businesses. We will continue to fight your corner. We will never stop delivering a personal service.

That’s why we’re For the People.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in 2022 and wish you a successful and prosperous year.
