For the People Awards

Meet your local heroes.

We have our winners! Following a public vote, our awards panel had the privilege of meeting (virtually!) a shortlist of genuinely inspirational businesses and individuals – people who have given their time and energy to help support their local communities in the past year.

Sadly we can only have one winner for each category, much as we applaud them all! However, because our judges were so impressed by our finalists we have decided to add in an additional award for second place as ‘Highly Commended’ for each category!

So, without further ado, we are delighted to announce that the winners, who will each receive £5,000, and our ‘Highly Commended’ runners up each receiving £1,000 for their nominated charity or charitable initiative are… (drum-roll please!)

Business Award - Winner

Eat Well MCR

Our awards panel were especially impressed by this essential service, and all involved donating their time and skills, to provide nourishing meals across the Manchester area for those people in real need. Eat Well MCR is the first business to win our For the People Award, and they have truly set the benchmark for next year.

Individual Award -Winner

Melanie Rowbottom

We had some incredible stories from individuals around the country, but this was a unanimous decision by the awards panel. Melanie Rowbottom, through her work with Freewheelers (aka Blood Bikes), has helped provide the NHS with much needed medical supplies at a moments’ notice. We’re delighted to award their chosen charity £5,000 to continue this vital work.

Business Award – Highly Commended

Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary

In recognition of the fantastic work that Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary have been doing rescuing and rehoming pets into loving homes, Holly Hedge is the first business to be Highly Commended in our For the People Business Award, and has demonstrated true compassion for their local communities and animals. We hope that the £1,000 award money will help them continue to do great work.

Individual Award- Highly Commended

Ben Slack

Hearing the unique and heart-warming story of helping the recently bereaved by composing and recording a song to remember their loved ones by, the awards panel were very moved and impressed. We’re therefore delighted to give the Highly Commended award to the Swan Song project, to help them continue with this wonderful work.

Supporting The Silver Line charity

Giving out awards is a privilege, but for us, the best part of hosting these For the People awards has been the prizes we’ve been able to give to some remarkable charities, not least our own For the People Awards charity partner for this year.

Thank you to all the people and see you next year!
