For the People Awards 2021

Meet your local heroes

We have our winners! Following a public vote, our awards panel had the privilege of meeting (virtually!) a shortlist of genuinely inspirational people who have given their time and energy to help support their local communities in the past year.

So, without further ado, we are delighted to announce that the winners, who will each receive a £10,000 cheque, and our ‘Highly Commended’ runners up each receiving £2,000 for their nominated charity or charitable initiative are… (drum-roll please!)

Business Award - Winner

Cancer Card

Our panel was blown away by Cancer Card and the incredible service and support it will give people affected by cancer. With one in two of us being diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lifetime, the Cancer Card website and community will be an invaluable resource and support to so many. Cancer Card will help people to find the things they need quickly and easily and connect with a community of people who are going through a similar experience. The work Jen Hardy has done, while also receiving treatment for cancer, is nothing short of astonishing.

Individual Award - Winner

Joanne Jamieson

Our awards panel were especially moved by the brilliant work Joanne has been doing to raise much needed funds for Charlie House. Joanne’s family is one of many that benefit from the specialist support the charity offers to help improve the lives of babies, children and young people who have life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. Joanne set the bar high with her commitment and passion to help more families benefit from the fantastic support Charlie House gives to parents and siblings, helping them to connect with other families and improve quality of life for the whole family. A truly worthy winner.

Business Award - Highly Commended

Omega

The panel were particularly impressed by Omega’s passion, dedication and meticulous plans for how this amazing service is going to expand. Omega is a small but passionate end of life charity based in Shrewsbury and working across the UK. In 2012, they launched multi-award-winning telephone befriending service, Chatterbox Action Against Loneliness Programme, as a way to tackle loneliness within caregivers, the bereaved and the elderly. Omega and its Chatterbox service does such a wonderful job and the impact it has on those who are lonely is immeasurable.

Individual Award - Highly Commended

Coral Harrison

Coral’s unwavering commitment to supporting and helping at St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol shone through. Coral has been volunteering at St Peter's Hospice in Bristol for 10 years since her husband, Jeff, passed away. She is eternally grateful for the help and assistance they provided during that difficult time. The time Coral gives to the hospice is invaluable – she has even worked five consecutive Christmases! Coral is clearly a well-loved, admired and long-standing volunteer – and much deserving of this award and recognition.

We think you’ll agree our winners, and our highly commended runners up, are all an inspiration to the communities they serve, and have demonstrated above and beyond that they are ‘For the People.’ A hearty congratulations to you both from all at Marsh Commercial.
