Social Impact Update July 2019

Our customers are at the heart of what we do, supporting charities and being active in our communities is a key part of what makes us the local, community broker we are.

After a busy month of charitable activity and volunteering days, we want to shout about our fantastic employees. Here is what they have been up to in July.

Colleagues take part in PRIDE

For Jelf, and the wider MMC, our aim is to: 'Create an inclusive workplace, where being your true self is not a barrier to fulfilling career or personal aims’.

On Saturday, 6 July there was a huge turn out from the colleagues to marching proudly in this year's London PRIDE parade.

Additionally, colleagues have attended and will be attending other PRIDE events up and down the country.

As you can see from the photos below, there was a great atmosphere for all involved, and we couldn't be more proud to show our support for the LGBT community, in and out of the workplace.

Taking on a 'Mighty Hike' for MacMillan

This month Louise Elliot and members of her team from Harrogate took part in the 'Mighty Hike', to raise money for MacMillan.

The hike was 26 miles long and took 11 hours to complete - the hike didn't beat our team from Harrogate - who all completed this challenge for such a worthy cause. A huge well done to everyone involved!

Hull colleagues dig deep to help those in need

Nine colleagues from the Hull branch volunteered their time with Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire (‘HEY’) to help bring a garden back to life for local people living with sight loss.

They made the grounds at Beech Holme Court more attractive and usable for the accommodation’s visually impaired residents as well as adding plants to promote sensory smells.

It took the team one day to prune, paint, weed and dig in order to transform the outdoor space. Fantastic work, all!

Chipping Sodbury takes time out for some creativity in aid of Mind

On Thursday 25 July, Chipping Sodbury colleagues were encouraged to leave their desks, have a natter, and get stuck into some therapeutic crafting.

The mental health charity MIND held a campaign where lunch times across the country were turned into 'Crafternoons', and people were encouraged to have some downtime with colleagues/friends to get creative.

It was certainly something a little different and also helped raise some funds for this worthwhile charity.

It was another action packed month here at Jelf in the community.

We have so many activities lined up for August, so check back next month to see what we have been up to!
